Session 1: Introduction to Ceramics

  • Overview of ceramics and tools

  • Clay distribution (self-service – please leave the area clean and tidy)

  • History and origin of clay

  • What is clay, ceramic, and glaze?

  • Space orientation and safety rules

    • Do not place wires or tools in the wheel

Session 2: Basic Hand-Building Techniques

  • Pressure technique: making a cup

  • Understanding clay density

  • Freeform shaping and modeling

Session 3: Advanced Hand-Building Techniques

  • Slab technique: making a cup

  • Coil technique: making a cup

  • Creating a cup base

  • Smoothing methods and final touches

Session 4: Pottery Wheel Introduction

  • Wheel fundamentals:

    • Wedging

    • Centering

    • Coning

    • Opening

    • Pulling walls

    • Widening

    • Leveling the rim

    • Waist shaping

    • Drying

    • Cutting

Session 5: Wheel Practice & Decoration

  • Pulling and attaching clay on the wheel
